Let’s not let this happen anymore.  Save electronics from landfills and help those in need at the same time.

You tell us who to send money to, and we will.  You send us your old cell phone or laptop, and we’ll recycle it.

We can make a difference.

hike to help

Hike to Help Refugees is a shining star among many non-profit organizations that participate with Recycle for  Cause.  Not only are they incredibly compassionate, caring and giving individuals, but they are literally hiking, dancing and recycling to help refugees!

Each year participants gather to make the big trek, resembling that which refugees are forced to make to find safe haven from political unrest and social turmoil. Sponsors donate funds, 100% of which are donated directly to the UNHCR, the UN’s refugee support agency. The money is used to purchase shelters in the form of tents. “Shelter is one of the most basic needs for refugees.” says Caitlyn Van Orden from USA for UNHCR.

In addition to hiking for the cause, Margaret Hahn, whose warmth and compassion is easily recognizable, organizes dance classes where people of all ages can come to learn the Tango. Participants then spend an evening dancing through the streets of downtown Omaha to raise funds for the UNHCR.

Hike to Help Refugees also recycles with Recycle for Refugees. They hand out pre-paid mailing bags and use promotional events as a way to start a conversation about recycling and the campaign of the UNHCR. They also collect at various different locations and events. Through recycle for Refugees, Hike to Help has been able to raise close to $160, enough for 2 tents, or shelter for 10 people, who would otherwise have none.

After a VERY long hiatus, Recycle 4 a Cause is back on the blogging scene.  The program never stopped, we just stopped writing about it. We know, we know, you all have gone through boxes of tissue in the last 9 months wondering when you would get to read another of our clever posts.

Now you can.

Today, I need to tell you all about earning $50 in bonus money.  That’s right…FREE, EASY, $50.  How?  Hold a 6-week collection drive and collect 100 cell phones.  That’s it.

“WHAT?!?” You might be asking as you rub your temples in confusion…”WHAT IS A COLLECTION DRIVE? 100 PHONES? THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!”

Here’s what you do:

1. Call us (877-790-1870) or email us (support@recycle4acause.com), and tell us you want to see how many cell phones you can collect in 6 weeks.  Give us your start and end dates.

2. Spread the word and collect old cell phones.  As many as you can.  We’ll give you fliers, posters, collection boxes, and great ideas if you want.  Just let us know.

3. Once your 6 weeks are over, slap one of our prepaid shipping labels on the box(es) of phones, and send them in.

4. We count your phones, and if you collect 100 or more–We send you a check for $50,  and a check for THE VALUE OF YOUR PHONES.

Piece of cake.  One group of 8 Girl Scouts that participates in our program did a collection drive and collected over $700 worth of phones.  If they can do it, you can do it.

Keep checking back, as we’ll have new ideas, fun facts, and recycling shout-outs posted here all the time.

That’s right, the president-elect may be forced to give up his treasured Blackberry. As per the Presidential Records Act, all of the president communications must be put in the official record and are subject to public review and even the threat of subpoenas. What does this means for the president-elect? Time to turn over that Blackberry!

Mr. Obama could recycle his Blackberry with Recycle 4 a Cause to benefit a local or national non-profit organization. As for the rest of us, our e-mails might not all be subject to subpoenas, but we can certainly all do the right thing and recycle our old cell phones and PDA’s to benefit hunger relief, soldiers, domestic violence prevention, refugees, pets and wildlife, clean world water, or global warming prevention!

Other presidential Blackberry fans include John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton!

‘Tis the season for giving.  Consider those less fortunate during the next few months, and take advantage of Recycle for Hunger Relief.  Hold a collection drive, or just simply dedicate your collection in November or December to Recycle for Hunger Relief.  Proceeds will benefit non-profit organizations dedicated to the cause of providing sustainable resources to feed the world’s hungry.

Be thankful for what you have, and do what you can for those who are less fortunate.  Every little bit helps.  Encourage others to embrace the meaning of charity, and do something great for someone in need this holiday season.

Go ahead, Recycle for Hunger Relief!

“Going green” doesn’t necessarily mean putting forth much effort. Every little step is a step in the right direction! Here is one example of an effortless action that you can take today:

Say “no” to ATM receipts. If everyone in the U.S. said no after each transaction, it would save a roll of paper so long it could circle the equator fifteen times.

Now, wasn’t that easy?

Ever wonder what those weird green mazes called circuit boards get turned into? If they’re just left to a landfill, the heavy metals, high levels of pollutants, and flame retardants can leach into the water and soil–potentially harming humans and definitely having a negative impact on the environment.

Scientists all over the world are working on ways to recycle these circuit boards safely, and they’re coming up with great ideas!  Circuit boards are being reused to make things like…

Cufflinks for the tech-savvy man in your life…

Modern art…

Wall clocks to spruce up the office…

Cool lookin’ coasters…

And our personal favorite…

Yep…that’s a car decorated in circuit boards…

Romanian and Turkish scientists have even figured out a way to process the circuit boards, remove the toxic substances from the sraps, and produce oils that can be safely used as fuels as well as in plastics and other products.  Chinese scientists have also developed a way to process the non-metallic components in the boards, making them into materials almost as strong as reinforced concrete.  These materials are being used as wood substitutes, making things like sewer grates, fences, even park benches!

If you have circuit boards to recycle, give us a call (877-790-1870) or an email support@recycle4acause.com and we’ll check into the best way to recycle them.

How will your old circuit boards go down in history?
