July is Recycle 4 Soldiers month here, and you’re right, I’m gonna quote Uncle Sam…We want YOU to help out!

Here’s how:

1.  Go right now to your junk drawer and take out the 1, 2 or 3 retired cell phones you have sitting in there. (You can grab the chargers while you’re at it.) Click here and print out a FREE shipping label. Put the phones into an old box and tape it up. Tape the shipping label to it, and put it in your mailbox. Or, if you’re lucky enough to know your mailman/woman personally, you could hand it to them with a smile.
And you’re done! Your cell phones will be recycled or refurbished, and the proceeds will be sent on to the soldier support organizations we work with. See below for the list.

2.  Go to the Recycle 4 Soldiers enrollment page on our website. Sign up your school, church, neighborhood association, bridge club, or sports team (or any other group really, because do people still join bridge clubs?). We’ll send you all the info you need to start a year-round recycling drive to support our troops. This means you collect all the stuff we recycle and send to us on our dime. We recycle all the stuff and send the money to those non-profits listed at the bottom of the page. Everybody wins.

Recycle 4 Pets is collecting empty ink cartridges, used cell phones, and other electronics to benefit the wildlife affected by the Gulf oil spill.

I couldn’t even picture what 4 million would look like, so I did some quick Googling and found out that
Los Angeles has about 4 million people living there.
Whoa.

The Gondobay Manga Foundation, founded by actor Isaiah Washington, is working to provide not only clean water to villages in Sierra Leone, but is attempting to address each village’s needs head-on, through communication and sustainability.

Founded when Washington discovered his own genetic link to the Mendé people of Sierra Leone, the Gondobay Manga Foundation is dedicated, among other things, to “establishing simple yet effective wells and pumping systems on a village by village basis, so that clean, fresh water is a reasonable distance from every member of the community.”²

JUNE IS NATIONAL ADOPT A SHELTER CAT MONTH

Oh hai. CFK’s own little friend here, Captain Bart, was adopted from a shelter. And now look at him!

You can help kitties just like Bart.

Donate money to your local animal shelter, volunteer your time, or combine a lil animal and earth luv and send us your old cell phone. We recycle or refurbish your cell phone from last year, and send the proceeds on to your local animal shelter, or the ASPCA, or the National Wildlife Federation.

June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, which means Recycle 4 Pets wants YOU to get involved!

In these economic times, charitable donations seem to be one of the things in our budgets that gets the axe first. Luckily, there are lots of ways to help your local animal shelter out this month without breaking the bank. Here are some creative ways you can help the cause:

1. Gather up the cell phone from 2 years ago that’s taking up space in your junk drawer, the DVDs you never watch, and the digital camera that now sits in your closet since you upgraded. Click here to get a free shipping label. Put the items in a box, tape it up, put the label on it, and drop it in the mail. Your stuff will get recycled, and the value of them will be sent to national nonprofits working for animals. The ASPCA, National Wildlife Federation, World Wildlife Fund, and the AKC Canine Health Foundation are all groups that your recyclables can benefit.

2. Volunteer your time. This is a big one. There are so many ways to volunteer–you could walk dogs, cuddle with cats, offer to help with their website or their newsletter, donate accounting or legal help, or get down and dirty and help with maintenance. The sky’s the limit.

3. Get the community involved. Hold a neighborhood recycling drive, bake sale, or car wash, and send the proceeds on to your local animal shelter.
